A Summer of Serves, Smiles, and Leadership: Inside FBB’s 2025 Summer Camp at GW Henderson

Updated: 6 days ago

When the sun rises over the GW Henderson Recreation Center, the air buzzes with excitement. Laughter echoes off the tennis courts. Sneakers squeak against concrete. Tennis balls fly across the nets. It’s summer in Tunica, and Family Biz Builder’s Sports & Fitness NJTL Program is in full swing, bringing together young athletes, mentors, and community leaders for a season of impact.

This year’s summer camp is more than just a seasonal activity—it’s a living, breathing testament to what’s possible when communities come together to invest in the next generation. Through the strategic partnership between Family Biz Builder (FBB) and Tunica County Parks & Recreation, youth from all walks of life are not only learning how to serve on the tennis court but also how to serve in life. They’re developing character, discovering their strengths, and growing within a space filled with joy, structure, and encouragement.

The Power of Partnership

This camp wouldn’t be possible without collaboration. Tunica County Parks & Recreation and Family Biz Builder have united their strengths to create an impactful experience for local youth. By sharing resources, staffing, and facilities, the partnership has created a structured and supportive environment where children can thrive.

Together, these organizations are making sure the youth of Tunica don’t miss out on opportunities for growth during the summer months. Instead, they are engaged, active, and surrounded by positive role models who look like them and believe in them.

Youth Leadership in Action

A shining example of this mentorship model in action is seen through Kaleb and Devin—two passionate youth tennis coaches and proud alumni of FBB programs. Once participants themselves, they’ve grown into respected leaders on the court. With professionalism, empathy, and a deep understanding of the program’s values, they guide younger players using the USTA Red Ball Youth League curriculum. Their instruction focuses not only on tennis fundamentals but also on instilling sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline.

Kaleb and Devin’s efforts are amplified by the incredible youth support team from Tunica County Parks & Recreation. Micaiah Donner, Amber Toolie, and LaKendra Williams bring enthusiasm and a spirit of service as they assist with player check-ins, keep hydration stations flowing, manage equipment, and help ensure the camp runs seamlessly. This is more than volunteering—it’s a crash course in leadership, responsibility, and the power of collaboration.

Leadership at the Helm

Orchestrating it all is Margaret Townsend, the camp’s dedicated Program Manager. With poise and precision, Margaret handles daily logistics, oversees the coaching team, builds trust with families, and mentors youth leaders through each challenge and triumph. Her role extends far beyond administration—she’s cultivating a culture of care, consistency, and excellence that uplifts everyone involved. Margaret’s leadership ensures that no detail is missed and that every participant feels seen, supported, and celebrated.

More Than Tennis

What’s unfolding at the GW Henderson Recreation Center this summer isn’t just about learning how to hit a backhand. It’s about helping young people recognize their power. It’s about giving them space to lead and equipping them with the tools to do so. It’s about showing them that their voices matter, their work matters, and they matter.

This summer camp is a blueprint for what happens when mentorship, partnership, and purpose converge. It’s where young people rise to meet expectations—and then exceed them. It’s where seeds of leadership are planted and lifelong confidence is grown.

Through intentional programming, meaningful collaboration, and a commitment to youth development, Family Biz Builder and Tunica County Parks & Recreation have built more than a summer program. They’ve created a movement grounded in growth, anchored in community, and powered by purpose.

One swing. One serve. One leader at a time.
