our story
Built From a Commitment to Youth and Families
Peggie Henderson started Family Biz Builder in 2014 in Tunica County, Mississippi. The idea was simple: young people in our community had the talent and drive to build careers, businesses, and futures. All they needed was access to real training, real skills, and real chances. That's why we made the training center.
What started as a training program in Tunica for people in the community has grown into a full youth development organization with three programs for young people ages 5 to 26: Literacy & Education, College & Career Readiness, and Sports & Fitness NJTL. Hundreds of families and young people have gone through our programs. We're making the model that makes them.
Our journey has been one of hope, resilience, and partnership. Through the support of dedicated volunteers, mentors, and community leaders, we continue to expand our impact and create lasting change for generations to come.
WHY WE EXIST
Developmental Gaps Can Affect Every Part of a Young Person's Future.
When young people do not receive enough support in literacy, character development, and practical life skills, the effects rarely remain in one area.
These gaps can affect school performance, confidence, decision-making, relationships, discipline, communication, workforce readiness, family stability, and future opportunities.

Literacy
Literacy affects more than reading. It influences learning across subjects, communication, confidence, test performance, and the ability to navigate education and employment.

Character
Responsibility, integrity, discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and leadership are developed through consistent instruction, practice, accountability, and positive examples.

Life Skills
Time management, communication, goal setting, financial knowledge, decision-making, career awareness, and problem-solving help young people prepare for independence and adulthood.
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower and uplift youth and families by helping close gaps in literacy, character, and life skills so individuals can learn, grow, and succeed in school, work, and life.
Our Vision
To develop a growth mindset, embrace mistakes as opportunities for continuous improvement.
